Canadiens Practice Disrupted by Absences of Key Forwards
The Montreal Canadiens faced a challenging practice session on October 20, 2025, as five forwards, including prominent players Patrik Laine and Kirby Dach, were absent. This situation raises concerns for the team as they prepare for their upcoming game against the Buffalo Sabres.
Among those present at practice were Joe Veleno and Owen Beck. Beck’s attendance is noteworthy because he could be reassigned to the AHL’s Laval Rocket if the Canadiens decide they do not require his services. The absence of Laine, Dach, Zachary Bolduc, Brendan Gallagher, and Josh Anderson casts a shadow over the team’s depth as they enter the early stages of the season.
Notably, the situation surrounding Dach appears to be more serious than originally anticipated. Reports indicate that his knee injury may be more significant than simply requiring recovery time. Both Laine and Dach have been considered day-to-day since October 17, 2025, suggesting the possibility of ongoing issues that could impact their availability for upcoming games.
As practice continued, attention turned to the goaltending situation. Jakub Dobes is set to start in net against the Sabres, adding another layer of urgency as the Canadiens navigate their roster challenges. Samuel Montembeault and rookie Lane Hutson were also among the first players on the ice, indicating that the coaching staff is keen to maximize their preparation time.
The absence of key forwards just as the season begins is not ideal for the Canadiens, especially for younger players like Bolduc. Team management is expected to provide updates following practice, potentially shedding light on the status of the injured players.
With the season just underway, the Canadiens are hoping for swift recoveries. The performance of Veleno and Beck may become even more crucial in the coming days as the team adapts to the unexpected changes in its lineup. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely for updates, particularly regarding Laine and Dach, as the team looks to maintain momentum in a competitive league.
