Cameron Graham, a standout player for the Dresden Kings, has been named the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s (PJHL) Stobbs Division Most Valuable Player (MVP) after an impressive season. This recognition comes on the heels of Graham sharing the PJHL scoring title, showcasing his remarkable skills on the ice.

In a remarkable performance, Graham led the PJHL with 43 goals over the course of 42 games. He finished the season tied for the points crown with a total of 82 points. The Chatham native, who celebrated his 22nd birthday in January, joined the Kings for his over-age campaign after previously playing with the Chatham Maroons and Blenheim Blades. Throughout the season, Graham recorded four hat tricks, including a standout game where he scored four goals, and achieved nine multi-goal games. Impressively, he was held scoreless only five times during the season, with just one of those instances occurring after October. He maintained a consistent scoring presence, never going two consecutive games without contributing to the scoreboard.

Graham’s achievement marks him as the third player from the Kings to receive the Stobbs MVP award, following in the footsteps of Nolan VandenBoorn, who won in 2019, and Dillon Liberty, who earned the title in 2017. Liberty was also recognized as the PJHL Player of the Year that same season.

Coaching Excellence and Additional Awards

In addition to Graham’s achievement, the coaching staff of the Blenheim Blades received accolades as the Stobbs Division Coaching Staff of the Year. Under the leadership of head coach Grant Spence and his assistants, the Blades finished the season with an impressive record of 30 wins, 10 losses, and 2 overtime losses, accumulating a total of 62 points. This marked a significant improvement of 10 wins and 20 points compared to their previous season.

Additional individual awards were also presented, with Michael Kopcok of the Lakeshore Canadiens being named the Defenceman of the Year. Andrew Baker from the Essex 73’s earned Rookie of the Year honors, while Birk Cassels of the 73’s received the Goalie of the Year award. The Most Sportsmanlike Player award went to Drew Booker of the Amherstburg Admirals. Cassels, along with his teammate Tomas Kniaziew, also earned recognition for allowing the fewest goals in the season.

Blades Aim for Series Sweep

The Blades are currently on the verge of advancing in the playoffs, leading their best-of-seven Stobbs quarter-final series 3-0 against the Wheatley Sharks. They will seek to complete the sweep on Saturday at 20:00 local time at the Wheatley Area Arena.

In their most recent game, the Blades secured a 4-1 victory in front of 469 fans at Blenheim Memorial Arena. Goals were scored by Stefan Jacobs, Brett Stonehouse, David Brown, and Andrew Goulet. Goalie Jake Vancoillie made 18 saves, with the only blemish on his performance coming when Joshua Bleau scored with just over two minutes left in the game.

Earlier in the series, the Blades also claimed a 4-1 win in Game 2, where Gavin Meriano scored twice, and Russell Vaughan contributed with 17 saves in goal. The Blades’ ability to dominate the series has been evident, as they outscored the Sharks 12-2 over the first three games.

On the other side of the playoff picture, the top-seeded Essex 73’s completed a decisive four-game sweep of the last-place Walpole Island Wild with a convincing 7-0 victory. Wild goalie Jackson Sterling faced a barrage of shots, making 37 saves in front of a crowd of 175 fans. The 73’s outscored the Wild 37-2 in the series, showcasing their dominance and securing their third consecutive shutout in the final game.

As the playoffs continue, the excitement surrounding the PJHL remains palpable, with individual talents like Graham shining brightly on the ice.
