Autism Therapist Charged with Assaulting Children in Milton
An autism therapist in Milton, Ontario, faces multiple charges following allegations of assault against children during therapy sessions. On February 24, 2023, police arrested Muaz Sarfraz, a 25-year-old resident of Mississauga, after an investigation into complaints concerning his conduct at the Spectacokids clinic.
According to a statement from Halton Police, the inquiry began after they received a complaint about the therapist’s behaviour while working at the facility, which specializes in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), speech, and occupational therapy. The alleged incidents took place during therapy sessions where two victims, both children with autism, were reportedly alone with Sarfraz.
Authorities have charged Sarfraz with six counts of assault, one count of assault with a weapon, and one count of assault causing bodily harm. The police believe there may be additional victims and are actively urging anyone with further information to come forward. Individuals are encouraged to contact the police at 905-825-4777, ext. 8970.
The clinic, located on Bronte Street South near Derry Road West, has not publicly commented on the situation. The allegations have raised concerns about the safety and well-being of children receiving therapy services, particularly in settings designed to provide support and care for those with special needs.
Investigators continue to gather evidence and encourage parents and guardians to be vigilant. The police’s appeal for information suggests that they are committed to ensuring the safety of all children who may have been affected.
The case has sparked discussions regarding the oversight and regulation of therapy services, particularly in environments catering to vulnerable populations. As the investigation unfolds, the community remains watchful, hoping for a thorough resolution to the troubling allegations.
