2025 Boys Soccer Season Kicks Off with Team Previews

The 2025 boys soccer season is set to begin this week across various schools in the Suburban Life coverage area. Teams are gearing up with high hopes and strategic plans as they aim for success on the pitch. Here is a closer look at several teams and their prospects for the upcoming season.
Benet Academy’s Strong Returnees
Benet Academy enters the season under the leadership of coach Matt Klosterman, who is in his third year at the helm. The Redwings are coming off a successful season, finishing with a record of 15-5-3 and clinching the Class 2A Timothy Christian Regional championship. They return key players like Matt Beaudoin, a senior goalkeeper, and Sergio Polanco, a forward with an impressive tally of 15 goals and 16 assists last season. With a solid group of returning players, including three all-conference midfielders, expectations are high for another strong performance.
Downers Grove North Seeking Redemption
Coach Rafal Slomba is optimistic as Downers Grove North looks to improve on last season’s record of 4-19-1. With a mix of returning players like senior midfielder Oliver Davies and new talent, Slomba feels the team has potential. “We’ve got a good mix of returning players and new guys stepping in,” he noted, highlighting the commitment shown during tryouts and practices.
Glenbard East Aiming for Consistency
Under the guidance of coach Josh Adler, Glenbard East is eager to build on last season’s 5-8-4 record. The team has a strong core returning, including Charlie Cooper and Edgar Garcia. Adler is focused on improving consistency and creating a more dangerous attacking unit. “The group has high hopes of improving their play and performance from last season,” he stated.
Hinsdale Central: Balancing Experience with Youth
Hinsdale Central, led by coach Michael Wiggins, is looking to capitalize on their successful run last year, which saw them finish 16-9-1 and reach the state championship semifinals. The team welcomes back five players from last year’s squad, including forward Matthew Gantar. Wiggins emphasizes the energy and enthusiasm of the group, aiming for another strong postseason run.
Wheaton Academy’s Championship Aspirations
Wheaton Academy, with coach Jeff Brooke at the forefront, is looking to defend their position as Class 2A Glenbard South Regional champions. They finished last season with an impressive record of 21-4 and return standout players like junior midfielder Mason Brooke, who scored 27 goals last year. The team is focused on building on their previous success and making a deep playoff push.
Other Teams to Watch
Several other teams in the area are also preparing for the season ahead. Downers Grove South, under coach Chris Hernandez, aims to improve from a 12-7-3 record, while Glenbard South is looking to rebound from a challenging season. Coach Willie Fajkus hopes to leverage the experience of his senior players to guide the team towards success.
Each team’s journey will be unique, but the excitement of the new season is palpable. Coaches and players alike are eager to showcase their skills and compete for conference titles and regional championships. As the whistle blows to start the season, all eyes will be on these teams as they strive for victory on the soccer field.
