Xiaomi Launches Premium 17 Ultra, Sets New Standards in Flagship Smartphones
Xiaomi has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, priced at €1,499. This device is positioned to compete fiercely in the premium market, particularly excelling in camera capabilities. With a focus on performance, design, and user experience, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra aims to redefine consumer expectations for high-end smartphones.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is equipped with the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, complemented by 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. This combination ensures seamless performance for multitasking and demanding applications. The device runs on Android 16 with Xiaomi’s custom HyperOS 3, which offers a range of features and customization options.
Impressive Specifications and Design
The smartphone features a striking 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 2608 x 1200 and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. It is designed to provide vibrant colors and sharp images, making it ideal for multimedia consumption. The display’s peak brightness reaches an impressive 3,500 nits, ensuring visibility even in bright sunlight.
In terms of design, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra maintains a premium feel with flat sides and a large circular camera module on the back. The device dimensions are 162.9 x 77.6 x 8.5 mm, and it weighs 230 grams. The backplate is made from fiber-reinforced plastic, which, while sturdy, may feel slightly slippery without a case.
The camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and an advanced 200MP periscope telephoto camera that supports continuous optical zoom. This configuration emphasizes Xiaomi’s commitment to providing superior photography capabilities, particularly in low-light conditions.
Performance and Battery Life
Battery performance is robust, featuring a 6,000mAh capacity, which is slightly lower than the Chinese variant’s 6,800mAh battery. However, the global model still offers impressive longevity, ensuring users can comfortably last through a day of heavy use. The device supports 90W wired and 50W wireless charging, enhancing convenience for users who are always on the go.
While the phone does not come with a charger included, it is compatible with various fast-charging standards, making it easy for consumers to find an appropriate charging solution.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra excels in everyday tasks and gaming, showing fluid performance without noticeable lag. Benchmark tests confirm its capabilities, with high scores in both single-core and multi-core scenarios. Users can expect a smooth experience whether browsing, gaming, or streaming media.
Camera Capabilities and Software Experience
Xiaomi’s focus on camera technology is evident in the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The main camera delivers stunning results in various lighting conditions, capturing rich detail and color accuracy. The ultrawide camera, while competent, does not match the performance of the main sensor, particularly in low-light scenarios.
The periscope telephoto camera impresses with its optical zoom capabilities, although it has a less favorable 30cm minimum focusing distance compared to competitors. This limitation may deter macro photography enthusiasts, but the overall quality of images produced remains high.
In terms of software, HyperOS 3 offers a modern user interface with various customization options. However, some users may find certain design choices unorthodox, such as the default settings for notification icons. Despite these quirks, the overall fluidity and functionality of the operating system are commendable.
In conclusion, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra stands as a formidable contender in the flagship smartphone market. With its impressive specifications, outstanding camera performance, and premium design, it delivers a well-rounded experience for users seeking top-tier technology. While its price may be a consideration for some, the features and performance justify the investment for those looking for excellence in a smartphone.
