Service on a significant portion of the Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) Line 2 will be suspended this weekend, from November 4 to November 5, 2023. The closure is necessary for crews to complete essential signal maintenance work. The affected section of the subway extends between Jane and Ossington stations, as confirmed in a Friday news release from the TTC.

During this period, a shuttle bus will operate along the closed line, stopping at each station. The TTC will also provide Wheel-Trans service for passengers with accessibility needs. Additionally, individuals requiring further assistance can utilize the 149 Etobicoke-Bloor shuttle buses, which connect Kipling and High Park stations.

Two subway stations will be completely closed: High Park and Lansdowne. Furthermore, the entrance to Dufferin Station on Russett Avenue will not be accessible. Passengers can still use the other stations in the vicinity to purchase PRESTO tickets or transfer to buses and streetcars.

There is currently “no indication” that recent snow removal efforts following Thursday’s storm will hinder the planned work, according to the TTC. Although a scheduled early closure on Line 1 was canceled due to adverse weather conditions, the TTC remains confident that the upcoming weekend work and subsequent early closures will proceed as planned.

Upcoming Nightly Closures on Line 1

Beginning Monday, November 6, 2023, subway service on part of Line 1 will conclude at 23:00 (11 p.m.) to facilitate tunnel maintenance. The TTC stated that although most subway maintenance occurs after service hours each night, weekend and early weeknight closures are still required for critical infrastructure work.

During this maintenance period, there will be no service between Finch and Eglinton stations. Similar to the Line 2 closure, a shuttle bus will service each station along the route, and Wheel-Trans service will be available. All stations on Line 1 will remain open for passengers to obtain PRESTO tickets and connect to other transit services. However, certain station entrances will be closed during this time.

These closures are vital to ensure the ongoing safety and reliability of the TTC’s subway services, which serve millions of passengers each year. The TTC encourages all commuters to plan their travel accordingly during these periods of disruption.
