TCL Unveils Nxtpaper 70 Pro with Innovative Display Technology
At CES 2026, TCL introduced the new Nxtpaper 70 Pro, a smartphone featuring the latest Nxtpaper 4.0 technology. This device aims to enhance the user experience with its unique display capabilities. However, the availability of the Nxtpaper 70 Pro in Canada remains uncertain, as TCL representatives indicated that it is unclear whether this model will launch in the region.
Discussions with TCL staff suggested that while the Nxtpaper 70 Pro may not reach Canadian consumers, alternative devices utilizing Nxtpaper 4.0 technology are likely to be released. Last year, for example, the Nxtpaper 60 Pro was not available, but Canadians did receive the Nxtpaper 60XE. TCL hinted at the possibility of a 70XE model in the future, although no specific details were provided.
Innovative Display Features
The Nxtpaper 70 Pro boasts a 6.9-inch display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The standout feature is its Nxtpaper technology, which allows users to switch between different viewing modes effortlessly using a dedicated Nxtpaper key. This functionality enables users to transition from a full-colour display to the Max Ink Mode, transforming the screen into a paper-like monochrome display.
This innovative mode not only enhances visual comfort but also contributes to battery efficiency. TCL claims that when set to Max Ink Mode, the phone can last up to seven days on a single charge. The tactile experience of the screen is noteworthy, providing a paper-like texture that appeals to avid readers, particularly those enjoying lengthy novels or manga.
The Nxtpaper 70 Pro also includes a rich library of pre-installed books and advanced AI reading tools, such as AI Outline, AI Audiobook, and AI Podcast features. Unfortunately, due to time constraints during the CES event, a thorough exploration of these functionalities was not possible.
Specifications and Performance
Under the hood, the Nxtpaper 70 Pro is powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 7300 processor, complemented by 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of expandable storage. The device is equipped with a robust 5,200mAh battery that supports 33W charging, ensuring longevity and quick recharging capabilities. Operating on Android 16, this smartphone provides a modern software experience.
The camera system features a 50-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, alongside a 32-megapixel selfie camera with face unlocking capabilities. The design incorporates a side-facing fingerprint scanner, which is necessary due to the unique Nxtpaper screen.
With an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, the Nxtpaper 70 Pro is designed to withstand various environmental conditions. Although hands-on testing was limited at the event, the overall impression of the device was positive.
As TCL prepares for the future, the anticipation for the Nxtpaper 70 Pro and its potential availability in Canada continues to grow. While the exact details remain unclear, the innovative features of this smartphone have captured the interest of tech enthusiasts worldwide.
