Stantec Reports Record Profits in 2025, Eyes Future Growth
Edmonton-based engineering and consulting firm Stantec Inc. announced record profits for the year 2025, achieving an impressive income of $6.5 billion. This marks an increase of nearly 11 percent compared to the previous year, driven largely by defence contracts in Canada and substantial investments in multi-billion-dollar data centres.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Gord Johnston, attributed the strong performance to several projects, particularly those funded by public investments in Canada. Notably, Stantec is involved in initiatives in Canada’s Arctic region, including the Grays Bay road and port project in Nunavut. This endeavor aims to construct a more than 200-kilometre all-season road, enhancing access to the Canadian Arctic. Johnston noted that once completed, the deep-sea Arctic port will accommodate both cargo vessels and Canadian Navy ships.
Johnston highlighted Stantec’s expertise in handling extreme climate conditions, with the Grays Bay project serving as a prime example. He stated, “We’re also involved in facilities to support the North American Aerospace Defense Command, and we’re doing work for the Canadian Department of National Defence to deliver facility upgrades for the Canadian Armed Forces.” Additionally, he mentioned that the company recently secured a significant design-build contract for the construction of Canada’s Multi-Mission Aircraft hangar, which is currently underway in Nova Scotia.
Stantec’s growth is not limited to Canadian projects. Johnston reported a notable increase in activity stemming from public investments in the United States. In January, the firm, in collaboration with AECOM Technology Corp., was awarded a US$144 million contract aimed at modernizing a U.S. Navy Shipyard in Maine.
The company is also venturing into the rapidly growing sector of AI data centres. While Johnston did not disclose the specific company involved, he mentioned that Stantec was recently commissioned by an AI firm to design the initial 300 to 350 megawatt phase of a large data centre campus, with the potential to expand to a capacity of one gigawatt. In a related development, Stantec announced last spring its selection by Calgary-based Beacon AI Centers to provide a range of technical services for the construction of six data center campuses across five municipalities in Alberta.
Overall, Stantec’s operations contributed to a remarkable rise in income, exceeding 32 percent in 2025, which injected an additional $118 million into the company. Looking forward, Stantec anticipates continued growth, projecting an increase in revenue between 8.5 percent and 11.5 percent for 2026.
As Stantec continues to expand its influence across various sectors, its commitment to tackling challenging projects in both Canada and the United States positions the firm well for future success. The company’s strategic focus on defence and data infrastructure underscores its adaptability and responsiveness to evolving market demands.
