Remarkable Launches Compact Paper Pro Move E-Notebook

Remarkable has unveiled its latest innovation, the Remarkable Paper Pro Move, a compact e-notebook designed for enhanced portability. Announced last week, the Move features a 7.8-inch color e-paper display, employing the same advanced Gallery 3 panel found in the previous generation, the Remarkable Paper Pro. This new model aims to provide users with a more mobile option compared to its larger predecessors, including the Remarkable 2 and the original Paper Pro, both of which have screens measuring ten inches or more.
The Move’s display boasts a resolution of 1696 x 954 pixels, translating to 264 pixels per inch, and can showcase over 20,000 colors. Users can enjoy a palette that includes nine primary colors: black, grey, white, blue, red, green, cyan, magenta, and yellow. This allows for creative blending and shading techniques, making it a versatile tool for artists and note-takers alike.
Design and Functionality
With a design reminiscent of a smartphone, the Move is slightly taller than it is wide, making it easy to handle. The body is white, and a layer of glass protects the e-paper display. The device includes a front-lit display, enabling users to read or draw in low-light conditions. Remarkable stands out as the second company to integrate the Gallery 3 technology in a commercial product, with the potential to reach a wider audience due to its established reputation.
The company explained its approach to the new display technology in a written statement. “In the Gallery 3 platform, E Ink gave us the right ingredients for making a unique color display. Using that display paper technology as a foundation, our teams have redesigned every part of our signature paper-like writing experience,” they stated. This redesign includes improvements to the Marker tip, the textured display surface, and the behavior of their custom operating system. The result is the Canvas Color display, delivering a writing experience that surpasses that of the Remarkable 2.
Performance-wise, the Move features an NXP 1.7 GHz dual-core Cortex-A55 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal storage. Notably, there is no option to expand storage via an SD card slot. The device supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, primarily for downloading software updates, as it does not include an internet browser or social media applications. Remarkable promotes its devices as distraction-free environments, focusing on productivity.
Accessories and Pricing Structure
The Remarkable Paper Pro Move supports the same styluses as previous models, including the original Marker and the Marker Plus, which is recommended for its superior build quality and eraser functionality. The company also offers a variety of new protective cases, including options in leather and polymer weave, available as optional purchases. Each device ships with a complimentary pen.
Remarkable employs a dual revenue model, selling hardware while also offering a subscription service called Connect for advanced features. Users can access free functionalities such as handwriting conversion to text, third-party cloud storage, and viewing notes in their apps. Paid features include handwriting search, unlimited cloud storage, and enhanced note-sharing capabilities, including integration with platforms like Slack.
The pricing for the Remarkable Paper Pro Move varies by market, and interested buyers can find more information on the company’s official website. With its focus on portability and advanced technology, the Move is poised to capture the attention of both existing fans and new users in the growing e-notebook market.
