Microsoft has announced a significant expansion of its Xbox Cloud Gaming service, making it accessible in select internet-connected vehicles. This new initiative comes through a collaboration with LG, allowing cars equipped with the LG PlayWare entertainment system to stream a wide selection of games from the Xbox platform. While an exact launch date has not been disclosed, the company stated that the rollout is expected to occur “soon.”

To access Xbox Cloud Gaming in vehicles, users will need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership, which is priced at approximately $22.99 per month. Additionally, a compatible Bluetooth controller and a mobile data plan that supports streaming will be required. This development marks another step in Microsoft’s strategy to diversify its gaming platforms, following the recent introduction of Xbox Cloud Gaming on select LG smart TVs earlier this year.

Broadening Access to Gaming

The integration of Xbox Cloud Gaming into vehicles is part of Microsoft’s broader campaign titled “This is an Xbox.” This initiative aims to extend the gaming experience beyond traditional consoles and personal computers, reaching mobile devices, handheld gaming PCs, and virtual reality headsets.

As part of this expansion, Microsoft is also set to launch two new devices, the Asus ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X, next month. These devices are designed to enhance the gaming experience, further aligning with the company’s vision of making gaming accessible anytime and anywhere.

The move to incorporate gaming into vehicles reflects a growing trend in the automotive and technology sectors, where entertainment options are increasingly integrated into the driving experience. This partnership with LG is expected to attract both gamers and car enthusiasts, offering an innovative way to enjoy gaming while on the road.

In summary, Microsoft’s collaboration with LG signifies a pivotal moment in the evolution of gaming, blending technology and entertainment in unprecedented ways. As the launch date approaches, many in the gaming community are eager to see how this new service will transform the in-car experience.
