Mecum Auctions to Feature 40+ Rare Ferraris from Bachman Collection
The highly anticipated auction of the Bachman Ferrari Collection is set to take place through Mecum Auctions in January 2026. This impressive collection, featuring over 40 low-mileage Ferraris, is being offered following the passing of its owner, Phil Bachman, in August 2023. The auction will occur in Kissimmee, Florida, during what is billed as the world’s largest collector-car auction event.
Bachman, a successful car dealer based in Tennessee, amassed his collection over decades, beginning with his first Ferrari, a 308 GTS Quattrovalvole, purchased in 1984. Unlike many Ferrari enthusiasts who favored the traditional Rosso Corsa red, Bachman opted for the striking Modena Yellow, a color that became synonymous with his collection. This auction not only highlights his unique taste but also showcases some of the most celebrated models in Ferrari history.
Highlights of the Bachman Collection
The collection spans over half a century and includes a variety of iconic models. The oldest vehicle is a 1953 Ferrari 166 MM/53 Vignale Spyder, which has only 23,180 miles (37,306 km) on the odometer. Among the notable cars from the 1960s are the 1964 250 GT/L, equipped with the renowned Colombo V12 engine, and a rare alloy-bodied 275 GTB/4. The 1970s segment features 11 models, such as a 1975 365 GT4 BB, which has been driven just 275 miles (443 km).
Bachman’s collection is particularly remarkable for its inclusion of Ferrari’s celebrated “Big Five”: the 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari. Each of these models boasts less than 1,000 miles (1,610 km) of use. His two F40s, finished in Rosso Corsa, are expected to fetch over CAD$4.2 million (approximately USD$3 million) each at the auction. The LaFerrari is represented in both coupe and Aperta variants, with the latter having only 96 miles (154 km), making it a rare find in the collector market.
The Auction and Its Significance
Mecum Auctions is gearing up for a significant event, with an estimated 4,500 vehicles set to be showcased. The Bachman collection will be one of the highlights, drawing attention from collectors and enthusiasts alike. The auction is expected to provide a unique opportunity for bidders to acquire pieces of Ferrari’s rich heritage.
Bachman emphasized the importance of maintaining his cars in pristine condition, ensuring that each example he acquired remained as close to its original state as possible. This meticulous attention to detail has resulted in a collection that stands as a testament to Ferrari’s legacy, ready to find new homes.
As the auction approaches, potential buyers are reminded of the rarity and desirability of these vehicles, which embody not only speed and luxury but also a passion for automotive excellence. The upcoming auction promises to be a captivating event for both seasoned collectors and newcomers to the world of high-end automobiles.
