Huawei Unveils Mate XTs, Its Next-Gen Tri-Fold Smartphone
Huawei has officially launched the Mate XTs, its latest tri-fold smartphone, showcasing significant advancements in foldable technology. This new device builds on the original Mate XT, introducing enhanced features and performance, further establishing Huawei’s position in the competitive foldable phone market.
Innovative Design and Display Features
The centerpiece of the Mate XTs is its impressive display and innovative folding mechanism. When fully unfolded, it offers a substantial 10.2-inch LTPO OLED screen with a sharp 3K resolution and a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. The device’s 16:11 aspect ratio enables the simultaneous use of up to three applications, making multitasking seamless. With a peak brightness of 1,800 nits, the screen is designed for optimal visibility in various lighting conditions and supports stylus input for enhanced functionality.
Users can fold the Mate XTs to achieve a 7.9-inch display for dual-screen applications or further fold it to a compact 6.4-inch size. The device measures a sleek 3.8mm in thickness when unfolded and 12.8mm when folded, weighing in at 298 grams. This design not only prioritizes portability but also reflects Huawei’s commitment to innovation in mobile technology.
Powerful Performance and Specifications
At the heart of the Mate XTs is the new Kirin 9020 chipset, which offers a notable performance boost compared to its predecessor, the Kirin 9010. According to Huawei, this new system-on-chip (SoC) delivers a 36% increase in overall performance. The device comes equipped with 16GB of RAM and offers storage options of up to 1TB, catering to users with demanding storage needs.
The camera system is another highlight, featuring a 50-megapixel main sensor with a variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0. Additionally, it includes a 40-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 12-megapixel periscope lens capable of 5.5x optical zoom. A robust 5,600mAh silicon anode battery powers the device, providing support for 66W wired and 50W wireless charging, ensuring longevity for intensive use.
The Mate XTs is positioned as a premium device, emphasizing its unique design and advanced specifications. It supports a Huawei pencil stylus, allowing for note-taking and gesture controls, and can be paired with a Bluetooth keyboard for a desktop-like experience.
Pricing for the Mate XTs starts at CNY 17,999 (approximately $2,520) for the 16GB RAM and 256GB storage model. The 512GB and 1TB versions are priced at CNY 19,999 (around $2,800) and CNY 21,999 (approximately $3,080), respectively. The device will be available exclusively in the Chinese market, with deliveries commencing on September 12, 2023. Currently, Huawei has not announced plans for an international release, leaving potential global customers awaiting further details.
As foldable technology continues to evolve, the Huawei Mate XTs stands out as a compelling option for those seeking a versatile and high-performance smartphone.
