As streaming options continue to expand in Canada, viewers can look forward to a range of new films and series debuting from October 20 to October 26. Notable platforms such as Crave, Netflix, Paramount+, and Prime Video are offering fresh content that caters to diverse tastes.
Crave Highlights: Horror and Reality Competition
On October 26, Crave premieres its highly anticipated horror series, Welcome to Derry. This prequel to Stephen King’s acclaimed novel *It* explores unsettling events in the fictional town of Derry, Maine, beginning in 1962. Created by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, the series features a talented cast including Taylour Paige and Bill Skarsgård, who reprises his role as the infamous Pennywise the Clown. The show will consist of eight episodes, each lasting approximately one hour.
Additionally, Crave will launch the reality competition series The Traitors Canada on October 22. Hosted by Karine Vanasse, this social deduction game challenges contestants to outsmart one another over ten episodes, each running about 43 minutes.
Subscription options for Crave include a premium ad-free tier at $22 per month, alongside basic plans with ads starting at $11.99 per month.
Netflix Releases: Thrillers and Rom-Coms
Netflix will introduce several exciting titles in the coming week. On October 24, the political thriller A House of Dynamite will be available for streaming. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, the film follows the U.S. government’s urgent search for the source of an unidentified missile. The film features a star-studded cast, including Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson, with a runtime of approximately one hour and fifty-two minutes.
For those looking for lighter fare, the romantic comedy series Nobody Wants This will premiere on October 23. Created by Erin Foster, the show explores the early dynamics of a couple’s relationship, featuring performances by Kristen Bell and Adam Brody. Each of the ten episodes will run for about thirty minutes.
Additionally, on October 21, Netflix will release the documentary Who Killed the Montreal Expos?, which examines the factors leading to the downfall of Canada’s first Major League Baseball team. This one-hour and thirty-minute documentary includes interviews with prominent figures such as Vladimir Guerrero and Felipe Alou.
Netflix’s subscription options have recently changed, with the Standard with Ads plan now costing $7.99 per month, while ad-free plans range from $18.99 to $23.99.
Paramount+ and Prime Video Offer Unique Thrills
On October 26, Paramount+ will premiere the crime thriller series Mayor of Kingstown, created by Taylor Sheridan and starring Jeremy Renner. The show, which will air weekly, revolves around the complexities of power dynamics in a small town and includes ten episodes, each approximately one hour long.
For those who prefer survival stories, Prime Video will present the film Eden on October 24. Directed by Ron Howard and featuring a cast that includes Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby, this survival thriller delves into the conflicts that arise among settlers on a remote island. The film has a runtime of two hours and nine minutes.
Additionally, M3GAN 2.0, a sci-fi action sequel set for release on October 25, will see characters team up with a military robot to thwart an AI takeover. The film stars Alison Williams and Violet McGraw, among others.
