Amazon Delays Kindle Scribe Colorsoft Fig Launch to 2026
Amazon has announced that the highly anticipated Kindle Scribe Colorsoft Fig will not ship until early 2026, delaying its release while the initial model, in Graphite, is set to launch on December 10, 2025. The Graphite version will be available exclusively in the United States, offered in two storage options: 32GB and 64GB. Each model will come with a matching pen designed to enhance the writing experience.
The Fig model, although similar to the Graphite version, will not be available until sometime in 2026. This delay may disappoint many eager customers who are looking forward to a more colorful reading and writing experience. The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft features an 11-inch Kaleido 3 e-paper display, with a black and white resolution of 1980×2640 at 300 PPI and a color resolution of 150 PPI.
Enhanced Technology and Design Features
The Kindle Scribe is equipped with a custom chip and increased memory, aiming to deliver a superior color-accurate device. Amazon has licensed Sharp’s Oxide display panels, developed in collaboration with E Ink. This innovative technology leverages Sharp’s IGZO backplane, which allows for faster frame rates and more precise pigment control, resulting in vibrant colors and improved transitions.
The new model also boasts a front light system featuring miniaturized LEDs that are closely positioned to the display. This design creates a narrower bezel and ensures uniform lighting across the screen. Additionally, the Kindle Scribe has been designed with a texture-molded glass that enhances friction, providing a more natural feel when using the pen, unlike conventional tablets that may feel slippery.
Amazon has made significant design changes to reduce the weight of the device. By minimizing the number of layers in the display and replacing the traditional anti-glare film with a glare-free display, the Kindle Scribe remains lightweight at 14.1 ounces (approximately 400 grams). The removal of a previous touch layer, now integrated directly into the screen, has further contributed to a sleeker design.
Document Management and Compatibility
The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is poised to enhance productivity with support for popular cloud services such as Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. Users can easily import documents for annotation and export marked-up PDFs. Additionally, documents and notebooks can be synchronized with OneNote, allowing seamless access across multiple devices.
The initial release of the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will be limited to the United States, with availability in other countries anticipated in the second or third quarter of 2026. Those interested in acquiring the new device can place orders through the Good e-Reader Store.
With nearly two decades of experience covering audiobooks, e-books, and e-readers, Michael Kozlowski, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, emphasizes the importance of these new features in enhancing the reading and writing experience for users worldwide.
