AKASO Unveils Pocket-Sized Color Night Vision Device at IFA 2025
At the IFA 2025 technology expo, AKASO announced its latest innovation, the Sight-300, a compact digital monocular that aims to redefine night vision technology. This device replaces the traditional monochromatic green image associated with night vision gear with true-to-life color, enhancing visibility in low-light conditions. The Sight-300 is designed to make advanced night vision accessible for everyday users, moving beyond its military origins.
The Sight-300 features a second-generation quad-core AI-ISP engine that processes images in real time, effectively minimizing visual noise while enhancing detail and restoring color accuracy to an impressive 99%. It incorporates a large 1/1.79-inch CMOS sensor paired with an F/1.0 lens, allowing it to capture color information in near-total darkness, with a sensitivity of 0.001 lux. For comparison, standard smartphone cameras typically struggle in environments below 1 lux, making the Sight-300 nearly 1,000 times more adept at handling low light.
With the capability to capture 4K video at 30 frames per second during the day and maintain 2K resolution at 60 frames per second in the dark, the Sight-300 is tailored for a range of applications. Wildlife photographers and documentary filmmakers can now observe and record natural animal behaviors without the interference of artificial lighting. The device’s wide 120-degree lens and comfortable 60-degree eyepiece ensure a comprehensive field of view, enhancing the user experience.
The robust design includes a helmet-compatible housing with mounting rails for standard action camera accessories. With an IP-65 rating, the Sight-300 is resistant to dust and light water exposure. The 3,250 mAh battery is hot-swappable, allowing for uninterrupted use during extended observation sessions. Furthermore, Wi-Fi connectivity enables live streaming and remote operation via a smartphone application, broadening its functionality beyond mere observation.
A notable feature of the Sight-300 is its dual-scene mode, which offers “Observation Mode” for stationary viewing, optimizing image clarity, and “Action Mode” for dynamic scenarios, focusing on motion stabilization. This context-aware processing recognizes the varying needs of nighttime observation and adjusts accordingly, enhancing user adaptability.
The implications of the Sight-300 extend beyond individual users. Urban explorers can document nocturnal environments without harsh lighting, while astronomy enthusiasts can capture telescope sessions in a natural context. The device opens doors for wildlife observers to record behavior without disturbing sensitive creatures. This democratization of color night vision could lead to entirely new categories of content creation and scientific observation.
AKASO plans to launch the Sight-300 through crowdfunding on Kickstarter, with pricing details to be announced. First shipments are expected in November 2025. Given the success of the company’s previous product, the Seemor night vision binoculars, which raised $800,000 on Kickstarter, there is optimism about the Sight-300’s potential impact on the market.
If the Sight-300 performs as promised, it could mark a significant shift in how we experience and document the night, making advanced night vision as commonplace and casual as taking a photograph with a smartphone.
