A pioneering event is set to unfold in Nanaimo, where the first live hologram showcase will take place at the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance Summit from October 28-30, 2025. This innovative collaboration, involving FuturVille, Proto Hologram, and the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, will allow speakers from across the globe to appear as holograms, enhancing the connections between attendees.

The standout feature of the summit will be the keynote address by Paul Healy, a partner at Futurus in Ireland, who will be “livebeamed” into the venue. This technology aims to create a localized experience from a global perspective. In a statement, Julie Sperber, executive director of the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance, emphasized the significance of this initiative: “Our goal is to make global connections feel local. This technology helps Vancouver Island leaders experience the power of AI and innovation first-hand — connecting your business and community in ways that make the world feel smaller.”

With over 600 attendees expected, including business, government, First Nations, and community leaders, the event marks a significant milestone for the region. Organizers believe this live demonstration is just the beginning, with plans to incorporate holograms into workplaces and community spaces throughout Vancouver Island.

FuturVille, a Nanaimo-based destination development agency focused on health and longevity, plays a crucial role in this venture. Their mission revolves around utilizing hologram communication technology to promote optimal health for all. According to Angela Fay, founder of FuturVille, “Powered by the same Star-Trek inspired tech that once lived only in our imaginations, healthcare professionals can use ‘holohealth’ solutions to expand healthcare delivery to regional communities.” This innovative approach could potentially transform customer service offerings and facilitate the establishment of full-service walk-in clinics with reduced operational costs.

As the world evolves, the integration of such cutting-edge technology not only enhances communication but also redefines how communities can interact and collaborate. The Vancouver Island Economic Summit promises to be a showcase of innovation, setting the stage for future advancements in holographic technology and its applications in various sectors.

This event is anticipated to generate discussions on the future of technology in business and healthcare, illustrating how advancements can bridge distances and foster closer connections among diverse groups. The impact of this showcase on local industries and the broader community will be closely monitored as more holographic applications emerge in everyday life.
