USask Achieves Top 10 Ranking Among Canada’s Research Universities
The University of Saskatchewan (USask) has secured a notable position in Canada’s academic landscape by ranking 10th overall in the Research Infosource list of Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities for 2025. This achievement highlights USask’s exceptional performance in several key areas, particularly within the Medical tier, where it led in research income growth, research intensity per graduate student, corporate research income growth, and international government research income growth.
In a statement regarding this accomplishment, USask President Peter Stoicheff emphasized the importance of the university’s research ecosystem. He noted, “The research ecosystem at the University of Saskatchewan is a defining strength that positions us prominently on the national and international stages. This ranking reflects the tremendous impact our research has in the global community.”
The recognition from Research Infosource underscores USask’s sustained excellence in research and scholarship. The university’s performance in publications was particularly commendable, with significant contributions in natural sciences, engineering, artificial intelligence (AI) collaborations, and climate change studies. This success builds on USask’s record of securing a remarkable $417 million in awarded research funding during the 2023/24 cycle.
Significant Research Infrastructure and Collaborations
USask is home to several key facilities that drive innovative research, including four of Canada’s 19 recipients of the Major Science Initiative fund. These include the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization, the Canadian Light Source, the Super Dual Auroral Radar Network, and the Global Water Futures Observatories. These institutions not only enhance USask’s research capabilities but also attract researchers from around the world, further solidifying the university’s global reputation.
According to Baljit Singh, USask Vice-President of Research, the university has reached unprecedented levels of research income and revenue. He stated, “We have achieved research income and revenue heights once thought unreachable. This growth is a testament to the collective efforts of many; our researchers, scholars, artists, staff, and leadership. I am excited to see what we accomplish next in our continued pursuit to be the university the world needs.”
USask’s consistent high rankings in national and international assessments reflect its commitment to advancing knowledge across various disciplines. The university’s recent achievements highlight its leadership in research and position it for continued progress in the future. As it moves forward, USask aims to further enhance its impact on both the academic community and society at large.
