Science North Launches PHEMOMENA Exhibit to Explore Illusions
Science North in Sudbury has launched its latest exhibit, titled PHEMOMENA, which invites visitors to delve into the intriguing world of illusions. This interactive exhibit will be open until April 30, 2024, and aims to captivate the minds and bodies of attendees through a variety of engaging displays.
Ashley Larose, the CEO of Science North, emphasized the unique nature of the exhibit, stating, “It is highly interactive, which we know our visitors love. It’s a little bit different than exhibits that we brought here in the past.” The goal is not only to spark curiosity but also to encourage physical engagement with the installations.
Visitors to PHEMOMENA can expect to encounter numerous illusions that challenge their perceptions. Larose noted that the exhibit features around 20 distinct illusions, including a striking visual where she appears to tower over smaller guests. “It’s talking about how your perception may be fooled by these different exhibits and explains how that works,” said Bruce Doran, a representative from Science North.
The exhibit aims to provide insights into how the brain processes information received from various senses, such as sight and sound. By understanding these mechanisms, visitors can better appreciate the nature of perception and illusion.
PHEMOMENA coincides with significant family events, opening just in time for Family Day on February 16 and the upcoming March Break. Science North anticipates attracting tens of thousands of visitors during this period, eager to explore the wonders of the mind.
For those interested in experiencing the exhibit, detailed information is available on the Science North website. The organization encourages families and individuals alike to engage with this thought-provoking journey into the science of illusion.
