Digital Journal has been named the official media partner for **Life Sciences Week 2025**, scheduled to take place from **September 22 to 26** in **Edmonton** and **Calgary**. This collaboration aims to position Alberta’s life sciences advancements within the context of national and international dialogues surrounding research, commercialization, and investment.

The week-long program will bring together a diverse group of participants, including researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers. Events will encompass the **Life Sciences Summit**, various panel discussions, industry tours, and pitch sessions. The initiative is designed to showcase how Alberta’s ecosystem is fostering commercialization and creating the necessary conditions for growth.

Applied Pharmaceutical Innovation (API), a leading life sciences commercialization organization in Canada, is managing Life Sciences Week alongside various provincial partners. Andrew MacIsaac, CEO of API, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We’re thrilled to have Digital Journal taking part in Life Sciences Week. Something truly phenomenal is happening in the province, and we’re seeing tremendous momentum growing in the sector that is set to change the life sciences nationwide for the better.”

Agenda Highlights and Sector Growth

This year’s agenda will emphasize the transformative impact of new technologies on the life sciences sector. Sessions will explore the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare, Alberta’s manufacturing advantages, and innovations in women’s health through a dedicated femtech program. Additionally, early-stage ventures in both Calgary and Edmonton will be highlighted through regional spotlight events.

A **Health Tech Showcase** will feature companies demonstrating tools and technologies that are progressing towards commercialization. Participants will also have the opportunity to tour research facilities and clinical programs, gaining a closer look at Alberta’s advancements.

Alberta’s life sciences sector is gaining both scale and recognition. According to BioAlberta’s **2025 delegation report**, the industry generates approximately **$9.2 billion** in annual revenue and supports over **34,000 jobs**, contributing **$4.7 billion** to the provincial GDP. The ecosystem includes more than **1,900 companies and organizations**, with small enterprises planning to add **1,800 jobs** this year, marking a **44% increase** in direct employment since 2022.

The global profile of Alberta’s life sciences sector is also rising. The **University of Alberta’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences** is now ranked **38th in the world**, a notable improvement of ten positions from the previous year. Significant investments are being made in infrastructure, such as the expansion of the **Life Sciences Campus** in the **Edmonton Research Park**, which is anchored by Canada’s largest security supply site, the **Critical Medicines Production Centre**. Companies like **Future Fields**, **PulseMedica**, and **Entos** are contributing to this growth, along with Calgary-based firms including **Nanotess**, **NorthernRNA**, and **Fluid Biomed**.

On-the-Ground Reporting and Future Opportunities

Digital Journal will play a crucial role in on-the-ground reporting during the week’s events, focusing on how discussions and announcements translate into opportunities for Alberta’s life sciences sector. Chris Hogg, CEO of Digital Journal, remarked, “Life Sciences Week brings together many parts of the ecosystem, and API plays a central role in building the conditions for life sciences to grow in Alberta. We’re excited to work alongside them to connect those stories through coverage, highlighting where commercialization is working, where challenges remain, and how Canadian opportunities are being shaped in real time.”

Coverage will include insights on how discussions around commercialization, investment, and talent emerge through sessions such as innovation showcases, policy discussions, and community mixers. It will also capture the implications of these conversations for Canada’s role in global health innovation.

Life Sciences Week 2025 promises to be a pivotal event for Alberta’s ecosystem, demonstrating how research can effectively connect to commercialization and unlock new opportunities.
