A high school student in Calgary, Alberta, is facing serious charges after allegedly using artificial intelligence to create sexualized images of teenage girls. The accused, a 17-year-old male, reportedly manipulated photos of various girls from multiple high schools in the Calgary area. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding the misuse of technology and the implications it has for young individuals.

The investigation began when authorities executed a search warrant at a residence in Calgary over two weeks ago. Staff-Sgt. Mark Auger from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) indicated that police seized two cellphones, a tablet, and a laptop during the operation. This evidence is integral to the case, which involves multiple charges, including the creation, possession, and distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation materials.

Under Canada’s Criminal Code, materials categorized as child sexual abuse and exploitation include any visual representations of individuals under 18 or those appearing to be under 18 engaged in explicit sexual acts. The charges reflect the serious nature of the offenses involved, emphasizing the potential consequences for those who engage in such behavior.

“What teens need to realize is that creating these images and sharing deep fakes is considered an extreme form of bullying and a criminal offence, and we will take action against it,” Auger stated on December 3, 2025. This statement underscores the commitment of law enforcement to address this growing issue among youth, particularly in the digital age.

The identities of the girls involved, as well as that of the accused, remain undisclosed to protect their privacy. This case highlights the pressing need for education around the responsible use of technology and the potential legal ramifications of misuse.

ALERT is a provincially funded unit comprising municipal police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) that addresses serious crimes, including trafficking, child exploitation, and gang violence. The organization plays a crucial role in combating these issues across Alberta, working tirelessly to protect vulnerable populations.

As societal awareness of digital threats increases, cases like this serve as a reminder of the responsibility that comes with technological advancements. Parents, educators, and adolescents alike are urged to engage in dialogue about the ethical implications of digital content creation and sharing, emphasizing the importance of consent and respect.

The ongoing investigation will determine the full extent of the allegations against the accused, with legal proceedings expected to unfold in the coming weeks. As this situation develops, the community and law enforcement will closely monitor the case to ensure justice is served.
