The first poppy of the 2025 Remembrance Day campaign has been presented to Adeline Webber, the Commissioner of Yukon. The ceremony took place outside Whitehorse City Hall, marking the beginning of a period during which Yukoners can show their support for veterans through donations made at local businesses.

Significance of Remembrance Day

During the ceremony, Webber and officials from the local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion spoke about the importance of Remembrance Day, a time dedicated to honoring those who have served in the armed forces. The poppy is a powerful symbol of remembrance, traditionally worn in the weeks leading up to the day.

As part of the campaign, poppy boxes will be placed at the front counters of various businesses across Yukon, enabling residents to contribute to the welfare of veterans. This initiative aims to foster a sense of community and support for those who have sacrificed for their country.

Upcoming Remembrance Day Ceremony

The main Remembrance Day ceremony in Whitehorse is scheduled for November 11, 2025, at the Canada Games Centre. The ceremony will open its doors at 09:00 for individuals with mobility challenges, with general public access starting at 09:30. The formal proceedings are set to begin at 10:15, culminating in a moment of silence at 11:00 to honor those who have fallen.

This year’s events not only serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans but also encourage community participation in remembrance activities. The presentation of the first poppy serves as a poignant kickoff to the remembrance season, inspiring Yukoners to reflect on the contributions of the armed forces.
