Vernon’s inaugural Performing Arts Festival has achieved a significant milestone by becoming an official member of Performing Arts BC. This development allows local performers to qualify for the Provincial Performing Arts Festival, offering a platform to showcase their talents on a broader stage.

Becky Martselos, president of the Vernon Performing Arts Festival (VPAF), expressed enthusiasm about the festival’s new membership. “This milestone gives local performers the opportunity to qualify for the Provincial Performing Arts Festival, showcasing Vernon’s artistic talent on a provincial stage,” she stated.

Performing Arts BC, established in 1964, is a network of regional festivals committed to promoting excellence in dance, music, and theatre across the province. As a member festival, VPAF joins a collaborative community focused on supporting emerging artists and encouraging high-performance standards.

The VPAF will officially debut as a member festival from February 28 to March 12, 2026. The event will feature various disciplines, including dance, piano, strings, and voice, allowing participants to engage in adjudicated performances and showcases.

With a focus on local talent, the festival aims to provide performance opportunities for artists of all ages. It fosters not only creativity but also confidence and community connection, enriching the cultural landscape of Vernon and its surroundings.

The deadline for entries is set for January 15. For those interested in participating or learning more about the festival, additional information can be found at vernonperformingartsfestival.ca.

In addition to its local impact, the festival will contribute to the larger provincial celebration of the arts. The annual BC Provincial Festival, hosted by Performing Arts BC, brings together top performers from across the province, with Prince George set to host the 2026 provincial festival from June 1 to 6.

Through this membership, the Vernon Performing Arts Festival not only highlights the region’s artistic community but also strengthens its ties to the broader performing arts network in British Columbia.
