Twelve Geraldton Workers Share $432,700 Lottery Jackpot
A group of twelve coworkers from Geraldton has won a substantial jackpot of $432,700 in the latest draw of the Health Sciences North Foundation’s (HSN) 50/50 cash lottery. The winners, including Joel Letourneau from Equinox Gold, have been purchasing tickets together for several months, marking a significant win that they describe as almost unbelievable.
Letourneau expressed excitement over the news, stating, “The guys are never going to believe this. We’ve been buying tickets for a couple of years now. They’re all going to think I’m messing with them.” Due to work commitments, the winners were unable to take the customary celebratory photo, as they were on the job when informed of their victory.
The HSN 50/50 lottery draws are instrumental in funding essential medical initiatives in Northeastern Ontario. According to the Foundation, proceeds from the ticket sales support vital equipment purchases and medical research, contributing to the healthcare needs of the community. Notably, $2.3 million of funds raised from previous lottery proceeds facilitated the establishment of the Acute Reactivation Care Centre (ARCC) in Sudbury. This 52-bed facility provides specialized care aimed at helping older adults transition from hospital care back to their homes.
Dr. Jo-Anne Clarke, Medical Director for the Northeast Specialized Geriatric Centre, highlighted the importance of the ARCC, stating, “The population of older adults in Northeastern Ontario is expected to grow in the coming years. The ARCC is crucial in helping to provide the best care to older adults while making sure they can get back on their feet and back into the community instead of remaining in hospital.” This innovative model of care received national recognition at the recent Canadian Geriatrics Society Annual Scientific Meeting in Calgary.
As the next draw approaches, the HSN Foundation is gearing up for the September lottery, which promises additional opportunities for ticket holders. This month’s draw features three early bird prizes of $10,000 each. Participants must purchase their tickets by 11:59 p.m. on September 11 to qualify for the first early bird draw scheduled for September 12.
The jackpot continues to grow as ticket sales increase, with half of the proceeds directed towards essential healthcare initiatives in Sudbury and the surrounding regions. Tickets for the September draw are currently available, with sales concluding at 11:59 p.m. on September 25. The grand prize winner will be drawn on September 26 at 10:00 a.m. and announced on the official HSN 50/50 website, www.hsn5050.ca.
Residents across Ontario aged 18 and over can participate in this exciting opportunity to win while supporting the region’s critical healthcare needs.
