Surrey Resident Wins $89,762.50 in Bright Nights Raffle
A resident of Surrey, D. Bouillet, has won a substantial prize of $89,762.50 in the Bright Nights 50/50 raffle. This annual event, which concluded on December 24, 2023, is part of a fundraising initiative that supports the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund. The total jackpot for this year’s raffle was $179,525, with the winner receiving half of that amount.
The Bright Nights 50/50 raffle was open exclusively to residents of British Columbia, with ticket sales closing on December 23, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. The draw took place the following day at noon. Tickets were available for various prices: $15 each, $40 for three, $70 for six, and $250 for 25 tickets.
Supporting Burn Survivors
The proceeds from this raffle directly benefit the Burn Fund, which represents over 4,800 professional firefighters across 56 communities in British Columbia and Yukon. This organization is committed to providing ongoing support for burn-survivor programs throughout the year. Key initiatives funded by the Burn Fund include the Burn Camp and the Home Away Program. The latter offers accommodations for survivors and their families who need to travel to Vancouver for medical treatment.
The Bright Nights raffle is an extension of the Burn Fund’s largest annual fundraising event, the Bright Nights light festival. This festive event is currently taking place at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds in Surrey and will run until December 28, 2023. The festival attracts numerous visitors and serves as a critical source of funding for the Burn Fund’s charitable activities.
The success of the Bright Nights 50/50 raffle illustrates the community’s support for local firefighters and burn survivors. As evidenced by Bouillet’s win, participation in such events not only carries the potential for financial gain but also contributes to essential services that aid those in need.
