Seven Residents Honoured for Conservation Efforts in Comox Valley

Seven residents of the Comox Valley have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to conservation and land stewardship by the Comox Valley Land Trust (CVLT). This new honorary membership category was established as a means to celebrate individuals who have significantly impacted local conservation efforts.
The honourees include Janet Gemmel, Michael Nihls, Bruce Bell, Meaghan Cursons, Lesley Giroday, Chanchal Cabrera, and Gael Arthur. Their dedication to environmental preservation has made a considerable difference in the region.
CVLT’s Commitment to Conservation
According to David Stapley, board member and president of CVLT, “We are so proud of these individuals and of what they have helped to achieve. Our Valley benefits so much from their hard work and dedication.” This statement underscores the importance of community involvement in local conservation initiatives.
The CVLT has been actively involved in protecting and restoring nature since its inception in 1999. To date, the organisation has successfully safeguarded more than 670 hectares of ecologically significant land. This achievement highlights the ongoing commitment to preserving the natural heritage of the Comox Valley.
The establishment of the honorary membership category reflects a growing recognition of the vital role that local residents play in conservation. By acknowledging these individuals, the CVLT aims to inspire others to engage in stewardship efforts that benefit the environment and community alike.
In addition to recognising honourees, the CVLT continues to pursue fundraising initiatives to support its mission. The organisation is currently raising money to protect additional forest areas, furthering its commitment to conservation in the region.
Efforts like those of the CVLT are crucial in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable practices. As communities come together to support these initiatives, the impact can be significant, benefiting both the ecosystem and local residents.
The recognition of these seven individuals serves as a reminder of how dedicated efforts can lead to meaningful change in local conservation. Their contributions inspire others to take action and join in the important work of protecting the environment for future generations.
