The first Saskatoon Sportscard and Collectible show of 2026 attracted a significant number of collectors, indicating a vibrant start to the year. Held at the Centre Mall, the event provided a platform for enthusiasts to buy and sell various memorabilia. According to event organizer Sharon Sullivan, the turnout exceeded expectations for January, a month often characterized by post-holiday travels. “I’m not sure what it is, but it’s been very busy today,” Sullivan noted, highlighting the unexpected influx of visitors.

Variety of Collectibles Draws Enthusiasts

The monthly show features an extensive range of items, appealing to diverse interests. “We have everything from vintage to signed jerseys, football, and Pokémon—just about everything under the sun that is collectible,” Sullivan stated. Hundreds of attendees explored the aisles filled with memorabilia, with a particular emphasis on sports cards, which consistently attract a crowd.

Vintage sports cards from the 1930s to the 1950s have proven particularly popular. Sullivan remarked on the nostalgic atmosphere, as older attendees often reminisce about their childhood collections. “You’re looking at cards from the 1930s hockey and ’40s, ’50s hockey. It’s really exciting for a lot of people,” she explained. This connection to the past fosters a community spirit among collectors.

Special Releases in Anticipation of the Olympics

As the 2026 Winter Olympics approach, the event featured a selection of special cards commemorating the occasion. Sullivan pointed out that companies like Tim Hortons are set to release Olympic-themed cards, showcasing athletes representing Canada. “We have exceptional hockey players, not just the men but the women as well,” she said, emphasizing the inclusive representation in the collectibles market.

The combination of nostalgia, community engagement, and the excitement surrounding upcoming sporting events makes the Saskatoon Sportscard and Collectible show a noteworthy event for both seasoned collectors and newcomers. As the year progresses, it will be interesting to see how the show continues to evolve and attract a diverse audience.
