The 2025 Run With Responders 5K successfully raised over $10,500 for three local charities during its July 27 event in Windsor. The funds will be equally distributed among the Canadian Mental Health Association – Windsor-Essex County Branch (CMHA-WECB), the Windsor Firefighters Benefit Fund, and the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics Ontario, with each organization receiving $3,500.

Event co-chair Dave Orshinsky noted that the distribution reflects a commitment to supporting local initiatives. “We are pleased to provide 100 percent of the proceeds from this event to the charities,” he explained. This year’s turnout included 400 participants, among them 125 first responders from both Ontario and Michigan, who joined the community in running along the scenic riverfront trail.

Despite the positive turnout, Orshinsky acknowledged that the funds raised were slightly lower compared to previous years. He attributed this decline to current economic challenges affecting many individuals. “There’s a little bit of uncertainty for some folks, but $3,500 for each of the charities is still fantastic,” he stated.

The event not only serves as a fundraiser but also fosters camaraderie among participants. Orshinsky emphasized the importance of building morale among first responders. “If I’m being selfish, I really want to change the conversation about how folks view first responders,” he said. “It’s not an easy job, and there are a lot of things they go through. We want to support them in every way we can.”

This year marked the third iteration of the Run With Responders 5K, which also featured a children’s dash and an 800-metre run sponsored by AM800. Looking ahead, Orshinsky confirmed that the event will return for its fourth year on July 26, 2026, inviting the community to participate and support these vital charities.

The Run With Responders 5K continues to be a meaningful platform for raising awareness and funds, reinforcing the significance of local charities and the role of first responders in the community.
