Reflecting on Joy and Freedom: A Holiday Message from Reed Harris
Reed Harris, a longtime resident of Rochelle, recently shared a heartfelt holiday message reflecting on the importance of family, friends, and the joy of giving. After celebrating a joyful Christmas with loved ones, Harris emphasized the need to focus on the future rather than dwelling on the past.
In a world of approximately 8 billion people, he believes the essence of life is found in our connections with others. “There is no bigger joy in my heart than to see a smile of thanks on someone’s face,” he stated. For Harris, such moments require no words or physical gestures; a simple smile can leave a lasting impact.
Harris cautioned against those who may attempt to undermine personal freedoms and happiness. He expressed concern that some individuals seek to diminish the joy of others, driven by a desire for control. He noted that many people may prioritize material possessions over the more meaningful aspects of life, asserting that “except for that which is necessary for living, they are not important to us.”
He highlighted the fundamental human need for freedom, suggesting that it enables individuals to help one another. “We have tasted freedom and realize that freedom gives us a chance to do for others,” Harris remarked, reinforcing the idea that true happiness stems from generosity and community spirit.
In contrast, he described those who seek to impose their will on others as individuals who will never find satisfaction. “These are sad, petty people that will never be satisfied no matter what they do,” he noted. Harris believes that such individuals lack the capacity to understand joy or share in the happiness of others.
The message concluded with a hopeful outlook for the future. Harris expressed confidence that the coming years will be filled with rich experiences, emphasizing the innate social nature of humanity. “After all, we are social people; we are human,” he affirmed.
Reed Harris continues to engage with his community through various volunteer efforts, embodying the spirit of giving he encourages in his message. His reflections serve as a reminder that connection, empathy, and freedom are essential to cultivating a brighter future for all.
