Nipissing’s Hike for Hospice Raises Over $143,500, Breaks Records
The Nipissing Serenity Hospice has celebrated a remarkable achievement with its 10th annual Hike for Hospice, raising over $143,500—well above its target of $100,000. This event has now become the most successful single fundraising effort in the organization’s history. Bernadette Lindsay, the hospice’s fund development coordinator, expressed excitement about surpassing the goal in a recent news release, stating, “We are excited to have surpassed that goal and have now officially raised more money than any other fundraiser we’ve done to date.”
Since its inception in 2016, the Hike for Hospice has generated more than $800,000 for the organization, significantly contributing to its operations and services.
Community Support is Essential
Executive director Gil Pharand highlighted the importance of community involvement in the event’s success. While the Ontario Government provides some funding, it is primarily designated for specific needs. “We have to support our additional operational needs through private support. We need to ensure that we can continue to provide this very valuable service,” Pharand explained. “That’s where Hike for Hospice comes in.” He conveyed profound gratitude for the community’s unwavering support, stating, “The ongoing commitment never ceases to amaze us. We truly are grateful.”
In a social media post, the hospice extended its thanks to everyone involved, saying, “Thank you to everyone who made this possible.”
Corporate Contributions Make a Difference
The Degagne Group of Companies served as the title sponsor for the event for the second consecutive year. The company’s team, which included family members and employees, raised over $21,000 through various initiatives, including supplier donations. Dan Degagne, representing the company, connected their support to the care his family received during difficult times.
In a heartfelt statement, Degagne expressed his appreciation for the hospice staff, saying, “The hospice environment was always welcoming, warm, and nurturing. Our family appreciates the kindness and hospitality that was offered every single time we entered that door. Thank you for taking excellent care of our loved ones, especially in the times they need it most.”
Ongoing Fundraising Efforts
The Nipissing Serenity Hospice has underscored that its online donation platform remains available. Funds collected ensure the hospice can continue to provide essential end-of-life care. Supporter Vicki Tyler emphasized the importance of these donations, stating, “Everyone deserves as much time as possible with their loved ones. Nipissing Serenity Hospice provides that, and something even more important. They give us quality time. Your donations help make this possible for so many in our community.”
As the hospice continues its mission, the community’s support remains vital for its operations and the compassionate care it provides to families in need.
