Matt Patershuk Launches New Album “Dog. Tiger. Horse” in Grande Prairie

Matt Patershuk is set to unveil his latest album, titled “Dog. Tiger. Horse.”, on September 19, 2023, in Grande Prairie. This marks the sixth album in a prolific career that has captivated audiences with its rich storytelling and diverse musical influences. The artist has carved a niche for himself by crafting narratives that delve into the complexities of life and human experience.
Patershuk’s songwriting is a reflection of his unique perspective. Each track represents a distinct story, complete with a beginning, conflict, and resolution. For instance, the song “I Was So Fond of You” from his previous album explores the life of a black Labrador retriever sentenced for killing the cat of a Pennsylvania governor’s wife during the 1930s. Such narratives provoke thought and invite listeners into a world of imagination and inquiry.
Musical Roots and Diverse Influences
Describing his music, Patershuk emphasizes its roots, stating, “It’s not used all that much anymore, but roots music. It’s about roots.” His work encompasses elements of folk, blues, country, and bluegrass, occasionally infusing the energy of rock. This eclectic mix showcases his refusal to be confined to a single genre.
Despite considering stepping away from music in the past, Patershuk’s passion prevailed. He views his artistic endeavors as a labor of love, driven by enjoyment rather than commercial success. “It’s fun and it’s good for me. I like to do it. And I do it just for the love of it,” he shares, illustrating the profound connection he maintains with his craft.
Over the past decade, Patershuk has produced numerous albums and singles, cherishing the collaborative experiences that come with music-making. “It’s exhausting, but it’s pretty neat to fit in the room with four or five other people, and make something out of an odd idea you had in your bedroom, you know, years ago, come to life,” he reflects. This camaraderie underlines the communal aspect of his work, enhancing the overall value of his artistic journey.
Upcoming Performances and Tour Details
With the album release imminent, Patershuk has scheduled a series of performances to promote “Dog. Tiger. Horse.”. He will hold a house concert in Valleyview on September 18, followed by two shows at Latitude 55 on the album’s release date. Additional performances include a concert at Peace River Brewing on September 27 and an opening act for the Steve Dawson Duo at the Nickelodeon Music Club in Calgary on November 1.
As anticipation builds for Patershuk’s new album, fans and newcomers alike can look forward to a collection of songs that promise to resonate deeply, showcasing the artist’s storytelling prowess and musical versatility. This album not only marks a significant milestone in his career but also reinforces his position as a prominent figure in contemporary roots music.
