Maitri Receives Grant to Enhance Sober Living Support

Wellness and Recovery with Maitri, a nonprofit organization based in Peru, has secured a significant grant from the Illinois Valley Sunrise Rotary Club. This funding will be utilized to enhance the support system for residents of its Sober Living Facility by providing essential resources such as YMCA memberships, hygiene wellness packs, and gift cards.

The grant will specifically fund the purchase of two $500 gift cards from Walmart, which residents can use to acquire necessary items as they transition to independent living. The organization plans to assist residents in this process by pairing them with a peer recovery support specialist. This specialist will guide residents in using the gift cards, ensuring they can effectively navigate the purchase process.

Supporting Independent Living Skills

The Sober Living Facility aims to equip individuals with vital life skills that may have been lost due to addiction, incarceration, or long-term treatment. As part of their recovery journey, residents will learn how to create a resume and prepare for job interviews, preparing them for successful re-entry into the workforce.

In addition to the Walmart gift cards, the grant will fund the creation of hygiene wellness packs. These packs will include essential everyday items such as hairbrushes, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, and conditioner, providing a practical starting point for residents moving into the facility.

Furthermore, the YMCA memberships will play a crucial role in promoting physical health and wellness among residents. By encouraging regular use of fitness facilities, the memberships will help individuals maintain a routine that supports their overall well-being.

Emphasizing Self-Care
