On Friday afternoon, a collective effort by beachgoers and first responders in Port Stanley saved a man struggling in the water at Little Beach. The incident unfolded when Andrea VanWilligen, who was enjoying the day with her nephew, spotted the man submerged and unresponsive after slipping from his flotation device.

VanWilligen immediately took action, approaching the man and lifting his head above the water. She quickly alerted those around her, urging them to call 911 for assistance. A number of nearby individuals responded promptly, converging to help bring the man to shore.

“There were actually three people that were CPR certified who started working on the gentleman immediately,” VanWilligen recounted in an interview with CTV News. The man’s wife, who had been for a stroll along the beach, expressed immense gratitude upon returning to find her husband receiving critical help from bystanders.

Emergency services arrived on the scene within approximately ten minutes, taking over the lifesaving efforts. The man was subsequently transported to a local hospital by EMS, although his current condition remains unknown.

This event highlights the importance of community vigilance and readiness to act in emergencies. The quick response from both trained individuals and good Samaritans exemplifies the power of collective action in critical situations.
