Illinois Valley PADS Provides Essential Services to Homeless Families
Illinois Valley Public Action to Deliver Shelter (IV PADS) has been a cornerstone for individuals and families facing homelessness since its establishment in 1991. This not-for-profit organization operates emergency shelters in Peru and Ottawa, Illinois, providing crucial support services that address immediate needs while fostering long-term stability for those in distress.
The shelters are operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from August 1 through May 31. This ensures that those in need have access to safe accommodations during the most critical months of the year. During the most recent shelter season, IV PADS served a total of 578 individuals, which included 42 families with 87 children. These figures highlight both the increasing demand for shelter services and the community’s commitment to supporting those experiencing hardship.
In addition to providing a safe haven, IV PADS offers an array of supportive services. The organization served 89,958 meals during the last shelter season, providing three nutritious meals each day to clients. This focus on nutrition is part of a broader effort to ensure that individuals not only have a place to sleep but also receive the nourishment necessary to thrive.
Comprehensive Support Services for Stability
IV PADS goes beyond basic shelter and food services by offering case management and personalized service plans tailored to the specific needs of clients. These services include assistance with employment, budgeting, parenting classes, mental health support groups, and life skills training. The organization recognizes the importance of keeping families together and provides family rooms to facilitate this goal.
Housing assistance is also available through partnerships with community organizations, which helps families transition to more permanent living situations. For those who seek spiritual guidance, IV PADS offers optional Bible-centered groups that provide encouragement and support.
The organization also runs Lily PADS Resale Stores in both Peru and Ottawa. These stores play a significant role in funding shelter operations and services. The revenue generated from sales directly supports the mission of IV PADS, demonstrating the community’s involvement in addressing homelessness.
A Community Effort to Combat Homelessness
Through compassionate care and collaboration with local partners, IV PADS continues to be a vital resource for the Illinois Valley community. The organization’s commitment to helping neighbors in need find hope and a path forward reflects the resilience of the community itself.
