In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Macy Gochanour scored 32 points, leading the Fieldcrest Knights to a decisive 60-46 victory over Tremont in a match held on March 14, 2024. This win not only secured the team a spot in the Heart of Illinois Conference/McLean County Tournament but also marked a historic achievement for Gochanour, who broke the school scoring record previously held by Haley Ruestman.

Gochanour’s impressive performance pushed her career total to 1,787 points, surpassing Ruestman’s record of 1,765 points. Her outstanding play was complemented by contributions from TeriLynn Timmerman, who added 15 points, and Pru Mangan, who chipped in 10 points. With this victory, Fieldcrest improved their record to 11-11 and will face El Paso-Gridley in the fifth-place game on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Other Highlights from the Roundup

In another match, Princeton narrowly defeated Kewanee with a score of 48-44. Keighley Davis led the Tigresses with 26 points, six rebounds, and five steals, while Payton Brandt contributed 17 points and four rebounds. Princeton’s record now stands at 16-4 overall, with a conference record of 4-2.

Bureau Valley also had a strong performance, defeating Monmouth United 58-25. Libby Endress was a standout for Bureau Valley, scoring 21 points. Teammates Brynley Doty and Ashlyn Maupin added nine points each. Bureau Valley’s record is now 16-7 with a 5-1 mark in the Lincoln Trail Conference.

In boys’ basketball, Tri-Valley edged out Fieldcrest 75-70 in overtime, despite Kash Klendworth‘s remarkable 40-point effort for Fieldcrest. The Knights’ record now stands at 11-8.

Women’s Basketball and Swimming Results

Turning to women’s basketball, Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) secured a 59-52 victory against Highland. Jasmine Garman led the Eagles with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Ashlyn Ehm contributed 16 points and eight rebounds. IVCC’s current record is 7-13.

In boys’ swimming, the La Salle-Peru co-op triumphed at their own L-P Pentathlon, accumulating 14,499 points. They outperformed teams such as Metamora (14,373 points), Morris (9,424 points), and Olympia (4,923 points). Jonathan Neu claimed the individual title with 4,040 points, showcasing the fastest time in the 100-yard butterfly at 56 seconds. Wyatt Dauber finished third in the individual standings with 3,803 points and recorded the top time in the 100 backstroke at 56.91 seconds.
