Peter Philips, the creative and image director of Dior’s beauty division, recently shared expert tips on achieving long-lasting makeup during an event in New York City. Philips, who has been with Dior since 2014, is known for his innovative product launches and stunning runway looks. His insights come as Dior introduces its latest spring beauty innovations.

Philips highlighted the importance of layering products for a flawless finish. “With every makeup application, it’s crucial to do the different steps in thin layers,” he explained. For a robust base, he recommended starting with a lightweight lotion or essence, followed by a moisturizing cream. Although many foundation formulations now include skin-caring ingredients, Philips emphasized that a dedicated moisturizer remains essential.

Dior has recently reformulated its popular Dior Forever liquid foundation, introducing new packaging that is both thinner and recyclable, with a lid made from 100% recycled plastic. The foundation, available in two finishes—Dior Forever Skin Glow and Dior Forever Skin Wear—promises a long-lasting effect, with a 24-hour no-transfer guarantee. “The pigments and polymers are mixed together in advance to create a smoother foundation,” Philips noted.

For those looking to enhance their makeup’s longevity, Philips suggested the use of a setting spray. He hinted at an upcoming Dior release, stating, “We’re actually launching one next year.” He shared insights gained from his recent trip to Korea, where K-pop stars reportedly use setting sprays between each step of their makeup routine. “They do four or five layers of setting spray,” he revealed. This technique, dubbed “mille-feuille” or “a thousand layers,” allows for a more durable makeup application.

Philips also discussed the resurgence of bronzer, particularly with the introduction of the new Dior Forever Skin Bronze sticks. He advised applying bronzer under foundation for a natural sun-kissed effect. “Blush is more of a colour statement, while bronzer adds value to a beauty routine,” he said, encouraging experimentation with placement to find what suits each individual best.

The event showcased not only Philips’s expertise but also a glimpse into Dior’s collaborative spirit under the guidance of fashion designer Jonathan Anderson. “Everyone has their own territory, but at Dior, we do have crossovers,” Philips mentioned, highlighting the cohesive vision that defines the brand’s offerings.

With a wealth of knowledge and experience, Philips continues to shape the landscape of beauty at Dior, providing consumers with practical advice to elevate their makeup routines. As the spring season approaches, his insights into layering, product selection, and innovative techniques promise to empower makeup enthusiasts everywhere.
