Community Remembers Jean Lilly Cameron, 84, for Her Resilience

Jean Lilly Cameron (nee Roberton), aged 84, of Duncan, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, at Cowichan District Hospital. Born on July 6, 1941, in Bjorkdale, Saskatchewan, Jean was the cherished youngest child and only daughter of Frederick Redvers Roberton and Nellie Noreen White.

A Life of Strength and Grace

Throughout her life, Jean embodied perseverance, grace, and strength, making a significant impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. As a child and teenager, she actively participated in sports and outdoor activities, keeping pace with her three older brothers. Jean excelled in swimming, horseback riding, and competitive figure skating, showcasing her competitive spirit and athletic abilities.

After graduating, she pursued a career in nursing, a field that aligned perfectly with her compassionate and sociable nature. Throughout her life, Jean faced significant health challenges, including battles against cancer in her 20s and again in her 40s. Her determination and resilience allowed her to overcome these hurdles, defying expectations and inspiring those around her.

A Passionate Advocate for Life

Following her lengthy and dedicated nursing career, Jean remained active in her retirement. She cherished time spent with loved ones and engaged in various hobbies, including traveling, volunteer work, bowling, crocheting, and cooking. Known as a social butterfly, Jean’s charm, wit, and infectious laughter brought joy to many, lightening the atmosphere in any room she entered.

She is survived by her loving husband, Doug Greene; her brother, Jack Roberton; and her daughters Kimberlee Cameron-Friel, Jacqueline Nicolson (spouse Doug), and Patricia Welch (spouse George). Jean also leaves behind granddaughters Kristen Al-Aamri (spouse Giyab) and Alexandria Nicolson, along with great-grandsons Mohammad and Colten. Her legacy will continue through numerous other family members and friends who will carry her memory forward.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Kenneth and Lorne Roberton. In accordance with her wishes, no service will be held, and her ashes will be interred alongside her parents in Schumacher, Ontario.

The family expresses sincere gratitude to Dr. Mohammud Ibrahim and the nursing staff at Cowichan District Hospital for their compassionate care and unwavering support during her final days. Jean Lilly Cameron will be deeply missed, but her spirit and the memories she created will endure in the hearts of many.
