Community Harvest Food Bank Delivers Holiday Cheer to 280 Families
The Community Harvest Food Bank in Castlegar has successfully distributed large food and toy hampers to over 280 households in the area this holiday season. This initiative, which occurs annually, relies heavily on the support of local volunteers, businesses, and organizations to make a meaningful impact on families in need.
A coordinated team effort facilitated the distribution process, with significant contributions from the Robson, Tarry’s, Ootischenia, and Castlegar Fire Departments. Their involvement showcases the community spirit that drives this charitable initiative. School food drives and local businesses also played a vital role by hosting food bins and collecting donations, further amplifying the reach of the food bank’s efforts.
The Sandman Hotel generously provided their banquet room, allowing for an efficient setup for the food and toy hampers. This collaboration among various community members and organizations underscores the strength of Castlegar’s collective commitment to supporting those in need.
Val Field, President of the Community Harvest Food Bank, expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved. “Thank you to everyone from large corporations to individuals who donated cash that can now be used by the food bank throughout the year to purchase what is needed,” Field stated. The impact of such contributions cannot be overstated, as they ensure the food bank can continue to provide essential services to the community throughout the year.
The generosity displayed by the Castlegar community is a testament to its solidarity and compassion. Each donation, whether large or small, plays a crucial role in helping families during the holiday season and beyond. The Community Harvest Food Bank’s efforts reflect a deep commitment to alleviating food insecurity and supporting local families in need.
As the holiday season approaches, the success of the food hamper distribution serves as a reminder of the power of community involvement and the positive impact that can be achieved when individuals and organizations come together for a common cause. The Community Harvest Food Bank continues to be a beacon of hope for many, thanks to the unwavering support of its community partners and volunteers.
