Colwood’s Sonja Bidese Named 2025 Fitness Professional of the Year
Sonja Bidese, the owner of Success Fitness in Colwood, has been recognized as the 2025 Fitness Professional of the Year by the BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA). This award acknowledges her significant contributions to the fitness industry over a remarkable career spanning 30 years.
Bidese’s dedication to fitness extends beyond mere profession; it is a fundamental aspect of her life. As a registered fitness professional and trainer, she has inspired countless individuals through her passionate teaching and inclusive coaching approach. Her commitment to helping people realize their potential has made a lasting impact on the community.
A Commitment to Excellence
During the presentation of the award at the BCRPA’s fitness conference on October 5, 2023, in New Westminster, British Columbia, BCRPA CEO Katie Fenn praised Bidese for her exemplary leadership. “Sonja is an exemplary fitness leader who embodies the very best of our profession,” Fenn stated. “Her commitment to excellence and inclusivity demonstrates the essential role BCRPA fitness professionals play in keeping communities across the province vital, connected, and healthy. We are honoured to recognize her contributions with this award.”
Throughout her career, Bidese has developed innovative fitness programs, including a distinctive indoor cycling certification and community-oriented wellness challenges. These initiatives aim to blend education, empowerment, and enjoyment, making fitness engaging and accessible for people of all ages.

Bidese’s work emphasizes the importance of physical activity at every stage of life. Currently, there are approximately 2,700 BCRPA-registered fitness leaders actively working within communities across British Columbia. These professionals deliver a wide array of fitness programs in recreation centres, gyms, pools, health clubs, and outdoor settings, playing a crucial role in fostering healthy lifestyles.
