Coldest Night of the Year Returns to Cloverdale for Charity Walk
The annual Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) charity walk is set to take place on February 28, 2025, in Cloverdale and several locations across Surrey. This nationwide fundraising initiative invites thousands of participants to walk in support of the less fortunate, raising awareness about homelessness and hunger.
Hosted by the Storehouse Community Hub Society, which operates the Cloverdale Community Kitchen, the event encourages local residents to form teams or participate individually to raise pledges. Lindsay Rempel, the event director for Storehouse, emphasized the importance of community involvement. “We invite the whole community to take part. It’s a great way to connect while making a positive impact,” she stated.
The CNOY walk is designed to be family-friendly and aims to support those in need within the Cloverdale area. Rempel noted that 100 percent of the funds raised will remain in the local community, directly benefiting individuals who require assistance. “Every dollar counts, and when we come together, the impact is powerful,” she added.
As of now, with just over six weeks until the event, Storehouse has already raised 16 percent of its fundraising goal, totaling over $40,500 towards a target of $250,000. In 2024, the organization achieved a remarkable milestone, raising more than $242,000, making it the second-highest total in Canada for that year. However, donations in 2025 have not yet surpassed the previous year’s peak of $274,000.
Event Details and Participation
The CNOY walk will begin and end at the Pacific Community Church, and participants will have the option to walk either a two-kilometre or a five-kilometre route. During the event, rest stops will provide participants with hot drinks to warm up. Those who raise more than $150 (or $75 for youth) will receive a special CNOY toque as a token of appreciation.
Currently, over 115 walkers from more than 40 teams have registered for the Cloverdale event. The initiative is part of a larger national effort, where all locations combined aim to surpass a collective goal of $14 million. In 2024, the total amount raised nationwide reached an impressive $15,050,341.
Rempel expressed enthusiasm for the community’s support in this year’s event. “This is our 13th year participating in CNOY. Each year, we see the generosity of our community, and we hope to continue that legacy,” she remarked. The previous twelve events were conducted under the Cloverdale Community Kitchen name until the organization’s rebranding in 2025.
To facilitate the event, Storehouse has secured sponsorships from local businesses, with the Katronis Real Estate Team as the lead sponsor and Mutual Fire Insurance as a supporting sponsor.
