Bunzl Canada Donates 57,000 Rolls for National Toilet Paper Day

Bunzl Canada has announced a significant contribution of over 57,000 rolls of toilet paper as part of its annual National Toilet Paper Day initiative, in collaboration with Food Banks Canada. This effort aims to improve access to essential hygiene products for vulnerable communities across the country.
As the financial pressures of rising living costs continue to affect many Canadian families, the issue of hygiene poverty is becoming increasingly pronounced. According to Canada’s first hygiene poverty survey conducted in January 2025, 81% of respondents from community facilities, including food banks, schools, and shelters, reported that individuals faced the harsh reality of choosing between purchasing food or essential hygiene items. Furthermore, 72% identified financial insecurity as the primary driver of this poverty.
Bunzl Canada has committed to addressing this urgent need. “It’s hard for many of us to imagine having to choose between food and essential hygiene supplies like toilet paper,” stated Margo Hunnisett, Vice President of Marketing & Communications at Bunzl Canada. “For many Canadian families, it’s an unfortunate reality. Our goal is to raise awareness of this critical issue and assist those who are struggling.”
The donation includes products from Bunzl’s REGARD ® and DuraPlus ® brands, supplemented by contributions from vendor partners such as Cascades, Sunset, Essity, Kimberly-Clark Professional, and Kruger. Food Banks Canada will facilitate the distribution of these hygiene products to local food banks nationwide.
Bunzl Canada’s President, John Howlett, expressed pride in the collaboration. “We’re proud to once again partner with Food Banks Canada and our generous vendor partners to support National Toilet Paper Day. This initiative highlights hygiene poverty and provides essential support to those who need it most.”
The partnership leverages Food Banks Canada’s established experience in implementing transformative projects and Bunzl Canada’s resources to deliver crucial products to families in need. “Every day, people across the country are forced to make heartbreaking decisions about whether to eat, pay rent, or forgo basic necessities,” remarked Erin Filey-Wronecki, Chief Development and Partnerships Officer at Food Banks Canada. “With more than two million people relying on food banks each month, the demand for support is at an all-time high. We are grateful for Bunzl and their vendor partners for their generous contributions, which help alleviate the financial burden on families, allowing them to allocate funds toward food and other critical needs.”
Individuals and organizations interested in addressing food insecurity and hygiene poverty can engage with their local food banks or explore opportunities through Food Banks Canada’s website at foodbankscanada.ca.
