University of Lethbridge Nursing Students Host Seniors’ Health Fair
Nursing students at the University of Lethbridge are set to provide valuable health services to seniors through an upcoming health fair. This event will take place on November 27, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre. It offers an opportunity for students to gain practical experience while delivering essential care to older adults in the community.
The nursing students will begin by assessing the overall health of seniors, identifying their specific health-related needs and interests. This foundational step will allow students to tailor the event to the requirements of the seniors they serve. Following this assessment, students will engage with local agencies and businesses, inviting them to participate as vendors at the fair.
Penni Wilson, a nursing instructor at the university, highlighted the importance of community involvement in making this event a success. She noted, “We have amazing partners that generously support this event, whom the students ensure are recognized for that support.” The collaboration with local businesses not only enriches the fair but also enhances the experience for the seniors.
The health fair has garnered increasing popularity over the years. Ashley Kern, program coordinator at Nord-Bridge, explained that community members eagerly anticipate the event each year. “Our members always look forward to this event every year,” she remarked, underscoring its significance in the local senior community.
In addition to health assessments, the fair will feature various vendors offering resources and information pertinent to senior health. Organizers are also seeking contributions from local businesses for door prizes and refreshments, increasing the appeal of the event.
This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to community health and education, as nursing students gain hands-on experience while serving those who often face health challenges. The upcoming health fair is not only a learning opportunity for students but also a vital resource for seniors seeking health information and support.
As the date approaches, anticipation builds within the community, highlighting the collaborative spirit of the University of Lethbridge and its dedication to enhancing senior health and well-being.
