New Brunswick Proposes $270M Deal to Enhance Collaborative Care
New Brunswick is set to finalize a significant $270 million agreement aimed at transforming the province’s health care landscape. The proposed deal, known as the 2025-2029 Physician Services Agreement, has received the endorsement of the New Brunswick Medical Society. It seeks to promote a collaborative care model by incentivizing physicians to work alongside other health professionals to enhance patient care.
Health Minister John Dornan emphasized the importance of this new approach, stating, “This collaborative care approach, which involves multiple health professionals working together to address patient needs, is being incentivized because it has proven to deliver more coordinated, timely, reliable access to primary care and enhance the overall experience for patients.” The initiative comes as communities across New Brunswick face increasing demands for healthcare services.
In an effort to attract more health-care workers, the agreement proposes general economic increases of up to 12.5 percent for physicians, alongside new compensation models focused on patient attachment, timely access, and team-based practice participation. These changes are intended to position New Brunswick as a competitive province on a national level.
Premier Susan Holt described the agreement as a “major milestone in delivering on our health plan and putting people at the heart of health care.” She added, “By caring for the people who care for New Brunswickers, we are strengthening team-based family health care, improving access to services closer to home, and making our province a place where doctors want to build their careers.”
As the province works towards finalizing the agreement, additional details will be released following its signing. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to enhancing health care delivery in New Brunswick and ensuring that physicians are adequately supported in their roles. The agreement aims to not only improve healthcare outcomes but also to create an environment that fosters professional growth for medical practitioners in the region.
