London Chef Julieth Torres Shares Meal Prep Tips for Families
London-based chef Julieth Torres is transforming how busy families approach meal preparation. With a background in her grandmother’s catering business and culinary training in Colombia, Torres now runs her own venture, Bites and Feasts. She specializes in creating customized, made-from-scratch meals that are both flavorful and varied.
Torres emphasizes the importance of planning meals effectively to cater to individual dietary needs. For those looking to rethink their meal strategies or delve into batch cooking, she offers several key insights.
Effective Meal Planning
The first step in successful meal preparation is creating a structured plan. Torres recommends sitting down with clients to discuss their dietary preferences and requirements. “We establish how many meals you require per day, what you like to eat, what ingredients you have, and what you need to buy,” she explains. This initial conversation sets the foundation for a personalized meal strategy.
Additionally, Torres stresses the importance of storage. “Don’t forget to think about where you’re going to be storing all the things that you make,” she advises. Proper containers help prevent food spoilage and ensure easy access to meals.
Stocking Essentials and Embracing Variety
Once a meal plan is in place, the next step is to stock up on essential ingredients. Torres suggests considering oils, spices, and other basics beforehand to avoid monotony in meals. “When you’re thinking about meal planning, you want to make sure you don’t get sick of eating the same thing over and over again,” she notes. By introducing variety, clients can enjoy meals without growing tired of repetitive dishes.
Torres has built a repertoire of recipes that allow her to mix and match ingredients creatively. She highlights the versatility of shrimp, which is easy to defrost and can be incorporated into various dishes.
“People get bored because they focus mostly on Italian or Mexican, but when you do a variety of things, you keep things interesting,” she explains, reflecting on her culinary journey that spans multiple cuisines.
Encouragement to Experiment
Torres encourages home cooks to be adventurous in their meal preparation. “Don’t be afraid to try something you haven’t before,” she advises. This approach can lead to discovering new favorite dishes. Her passion for experimenting in the kitchen has led her to create recipes that combine diverse culinary influences.
She acknowledges that many clients become enthusiastic about her dishes, often ordering the same meals repeatedly. “If the food you make is good, you won’t get sick of it,” she remarks.
Torres believes that meal preparation is not just about convenience; it is a fusion of flavors and techniques that keeps cooking exciting.
Self-Compassion in Cooking
Starting a meal prep routine can be daunting, and Torres reminds individuals to be kind to themselves. She acknowledges that maintaining motivation can be challenging. “New Year’s resolutions are a great way to start focusing on what you eat and your health,” she says. However, she also emphasizes that the desire for change can occur throughout the year. “It’s okay to do that whenever you need,” she adds, encouraging flexibility in one’s cooking journey.
By sharing her insights, Julieth Torres aims to inspire families to embrace meal preparation as a manageable and enjoyable part of their daily lives. With her tips, individuals can create delicious, nutritious meals that cater to their preferences while exploring new culinary horizons.
