OTTAWA — In a thrilling match on January 3, 2026, Emily Clark celebrated a significant milestone by netting her first goal of the season, contributing to the Ottawa Charge’s commanding 5-2 victory against the Minnesota Frost. This victory marks the Charge’s fourth consecutive win, highlighting the team’s resurgence as they strive for a stronger position in the league.

Clark’s goal came after a challenging start to the season, where she worked diligently through the first nine games without scoring. Her determination paid off against the Frost, mirroring the Charge’s overall improvement as they now enjoy a four-game winning streak. “We’ve just been building our game, and you know every point matters in this league,” Clark noted. “So, it’s great that we’re rolling a bit here, and like I said, to get a three-point regulation win was huge for us.”

Team Progress and Strategic Focus

This season, the Charge have secured four wins, with only one coming in regulation time. With six games remaining before the Olympic break, the team recognizes the urgency of accumulating points to solidify their standing. Last year, Ottawa narrowly clinched a playoff berth in their second season, eventually reaching the Walter Cup final, where they faced the Frost.

Carla MacLeod, the head coach of the Charge, emphasizes the importance of growth over mere statistics. “For us, it’s about getting better every day,” she said. “There’s been lots in our games that we’ve liked since the onset, but now we’re starting to get rewarded for it.” MacLeod credits the current winning streak to the overall development of the team, which had to adapt to several roster changes due to the expansion draft and new signings.

As the team builds chemistry on the ice, MacLeod points out that the competition remains fierce. “It’s not going to be an easy night ever; it’s going to be close games always,” she stated. “You’re going to have to dig out of holes, you’re going to have to hold a lead, but we’re starting to see the ingredients come together.”

Key Player Performances

Several players are stepping up, enhancing the Charge’s performance. Brianne Jenner, the team captain, appears to have rediscovered her scoring ability, netting three goals in the last two games. Her partnership with teammates Rebecca Leslie and Sarah Wozniewicz has proven effective, generating numerous scoring opportunities.

Wozniewicz, selected 21st overall in the 2025 draft, has added speed and agility to Ottawa’s top line, contributing two goals and two assists in her first ten games. Clark’s breakthrough goal against the Frost has alleviated the pressure she felt from her previous scoring drought. “I mean, obviously, the monkey was feeling a little heavy, but it’s just because you want to help the team out,” Clark expressed. “But it’s been great. We’ve been rolling, and a lot of players have been playing really great hockey.”

The Charge will look to extend their winning streak when they face the Vancouver Goldeneyes this Friday. As the season progresses, the team remains focused on maintaining their momentum and securing a spot in the playoffs.
