Baby Born at Carroll Hospital Named with Help of ChatGPT
A baby born just after midnight on New Year’s Day 2026 has gained notoriety for being named with the assistance of ChatGPT. The newborn, identified as Hudson Oakley Winkler, made his entrance into the world at the Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, Maryland. According to a social media announcement from the hospital, Hudson’s name was generated and selected using the AI tool, marking him as the first baby born in the new year.
The hospital, part of Lifebridge Health, shared the news via its Facebook page, adding a personal touch by revealing that Hudson’s mother was also born at the same facility. Both of his parents contribute to the community, with roles in Carroll County’s police department and public school system. The post celebrated Hudson’s birth, stating, “Cheers to our next generation and the new family traditions that come along with them!”
AI and Baby Naming Trends
This development is part of a broader trend where artificial intelligence is increasingly influencing personal decisions, including baby names. According to a report by the New York Post from December 2025, the name Elara emerged as a popular choice among expectant parents, fueled by its connections to Greek mythology. The article highlighted how AI-generated names like Elara have sparked conversations about cultural shifts in naming practices.
Naming expert Laura Watternberg noted that Elara was considered one of the most coveted baby names of the previous year, based on data patterns and emerging trends. The name has been frequently suggested by ChatGPT and other character generators, showcasing the growing intersection of technology and personal identity.
As the New Year unfolds, hospitals across Canada have also reported the arrival of their first babies of 2026, further contributing to the excitement surrounding newborns and the unique ways parents are choosing names. The use of AI in naming children represents a fascinating evolution in how families are embracing technology in their daily lives.
