The Government of Alberta has announced the launch of a new health system dashboard designed to provide residents with crucial information about the province’s healthcare performance. This initiative comes just one day after officials detailed the challenges facing Alberta’s hospital network, which is currently experiencing significant strain.

According to a government release, the dashboard aims to present key metrics and timely updates on various aspects of the healthcare system. The rollout will occur in phases, beginning with surgical data that allows for comparisons among different facilities. In the near future, the dashboard will also incorporate primary care indicators, including provider attachment rates and cervical cancer screening statistics, as well as metrics related to acute care.

Adriana LaGrange, Alberta’s Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services and Member of the Legislative Assembly for Red Deer-North, emphasized the importance of transparency in the healthcare system. “Albertans deserve to know how their health care system is performing,” she stated. “This dashboard puts patients first, clearly shows key results, and holds the system accountable. It will continue to grow, adding new measures to give Albertans a fuller picture of how care is delivered across the province.”

The dashboard will be updated monthly and will include an interactive map of acute care facilities that perform surgeries. This feature is expected to enhance public awareness of available surgical options and the overall performance of the healthcare system.

As the dashboard evolves, the government plans to expand its scope to include data on assisted living, mental health services, and addiction treatment. By providing a comprehensive view of healthcare delivery, the initiative aims to empower Albertans with the information they need to make informed decisions about their health.

The launch of this dashboard represents a significant step towards improving accountability and transparency within Alberta’s healthcare framework. It reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that the public has access to relevant data, fostering a more informed citizenry in matters of health and wellness. The dashboard can be accessed online for those interested in exploring the metrics and performance indicators being tracked.
