Yorkville Public Library Unveils Exciting February Programs for Families
The Yorkville Public Library has announced a diverse range of programs for February, designed to engage families and children of all ages. With activities that include creative arts, reading challenges, and interactive learning, the library aims to foster a love for books and community participation.
Library Services and Special Events
The Yorkville Public Library operates from Monday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For those who prefer not to enter the building, curbside service is available. The library will be closed on February 16.
One of the highlights this month is the **Escape Room Adventure**, where families can solve clues to unlock boxes within a 30-minute timeframe. Interested participants can schedule their visits by contacting the Youth Services Department at 630-553-4354, ext. 108.
Additionally, patrons can explore **3D Printing** through a virtual tutorial by Leah English. This session will guide users on utilizing Tinkercad, a user-friendly 3D CAD design tool, to create objects for printing. Users can submit their designs via email at [email protected], with prints costing $0.20 per gram.
Weekly and Monthly Activities
Every Friday, the library hosts a **Drop-in Story Time** at 10:30 a.m., where a volunteer from The Friends of the Library leads storytelling sessions in the children’s area.
For those looking for a challenge, the **Winter Read Challenge** runs until February 28. Participants can pick up a Winter Reading Tracker and will receive a free set of mythical creature playing cards. For every 120 minutes read, participants earn cards representing various stages of mythical creatures, enhancing the reading experience.
From February 2 to 7, visitors can participate in the **Window Art** event, creating artwork to decorate the library’s windows. Registration is required, and space is limited.
Other engaging activities include **Toddler Play** on February 2, **Mommy and Me Yoga** sessions on February 3 and 17, and the **Preschool Zone** on February 4. Each event focuses on enhancing social skills and creativity in a fun environment.
Teens can contribute to the community by creating **Valentine cards for veterans** on February 9, while younger children can join the **Stuffie Sleepover** that same evening, where stuffed animals can experience a night of adventure at the library.
The library also offers **LEGO Kits** from February 9 to 14, allowing children to construct their creations using themed containers of LEGOs, which will be displayed in the library.
Moreover, the **Read with Paws** program on February 28 invites children to read to certified therapy dogs, making reading a low-pressure and enjoyable activity.
In addition to these events, the library will host a **Book Club** for grades 1-2 on February 14 and 28, and a similar club for grades 3-5 on February 5 and 19, encouraging literacy and discussion among young readers.
The Yorkville Public Library’s February lineup is designed to inspire creativity, promote literacy, and foster community connections. For more details and to register for events, visit the library’s official website.
