University of Waterloo Launches Search for New President

The University of Waterloo (UW) has officially commenced the search for its next president, following the announcement from current leader Vivek Goel that he will not seek a second term. Goel, who has been at the helm since June 2021, is set to conclude his presidency on June 30, 2026. His decision to step down has prompted the university to initiate the process of identifying a suitable successor.

Goel, who previously held various senior roles at the University of Toronto and served as CEO of Public Health Ontario from 2008 to 2014, has played a significant role in shaping UW’s strategic direction during his tenure. In response to this transition, Murray Gamble, a member of the board, has been instrumental in establishing a presidential nominating committee. Before the committee reviews potential candidates, the recruitment firm Laverne Smith & Associates Inc. will conduct an initial search.
