Teen Organizer Aids Burlington Families with Porch Food Pickup
A 14-year-old from Burlington, Ayden Zbikowski, has made a significant impact on local food access by organizing a porch pickup initiative aimed at supporting families facing food insecurity. On December 21, 2025, he successfully collected 289 pounds of food for the Burlington Food Bank, demonstrating how community efforts can address pressing needs.
Ayden’s initiative began with a proactive approach. On December 19, he distributed over 200 flyers in the Brant Hills and Tyandaga neighborhoods, inviting residents to leave donations on their porches. Together with his father, Arek Zbikowski, Ayden returned to collect the donations, making the process convenient for those willing to contribute. His aim was to simplify the donation process, particularly during the holiday season when the demand for food assistance typically increases.
“The goal of the porch pickup was to make donating as simple and accessible as possible,” Ayden explained, highlighting the initiative’s focus on eliminating barriers such as transportation and time constraints. This approach has resonated with the community, as the porch pickup is part of a broader, youth-led food drive that has already raised over 1,278 pounds of food and $925 in donations for 2025.
Community members can continue to support Ayden’s efforts through his website, aydenfooddrive.com, or by following him on Instagram at @aydenzburl. The contributions gathered through this drive directly support the Burlington Food Bank, which plays a crucial role in ensuring dignified and respectful food access for all residents.
The Burlington Food Bank provides a diverse range of food options, including canned goods, packaged items, and fresh produce, which help families meet their nutritional needs. The organization emphasizes privacy and respect during its operations. Initial registrations are conducted in a confidential manner, and clients are encouraged to treat staff and volunteers with mutual courtesy, creating a welcoming environment.
To register with the Burlington Food Bank, individuals must present proof of name and address, along with identification for each family member. Once registered, clients can access services once every three weeks during regular business hours. The food bank is located at 1A – 1254 Plains Road East in Burlington, operating Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 12:00, Thursdays from 17:00 to 19:00, and Saturdays from 9:00 to 12:00. The organization will be closed for the holidays from December 25, 2025, to January 5, 2026.
Ayden Zbikowski’s porch pickup serves as a reminder that effective community support does not always require large-scale efforts. Sometimes, it begins with a simple flyer, a walk through the neighborhood, and the determination of a young individual to make a difference. His actions reflect the spirit of community care, ensuring that families in Burlington have improved access to essential food supplies during crucial times.
