Student Trustees Elected for CSC Nouvelon, Begin Terms in 2026
The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon has announced the election of two new student trustees, who will officially take office on August 1, 2026 for the 2026-2027 school year. Emilie Philippe, a grade 11 student from École secondaire catholique l’Horizon in Val Caron, will represent the Sudbury/Manitoulin district, while Havana Thibodeau-Bello, also in grade 11 and attending École secondaire Saint‐Joseph in Wawa, will serve as the trustee for the Algoma district.
Emilie Philippe is recognized for her active participation in school life. As a member of the Student Parliament at ÉSC l’Horizon, she plays a crucial role in planning activities that promote a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere within her school community. Additionally, she contributes to her community through various engagements, including coaching young ringette athletes and tutoring elementary students. Emilie is also a proud Francophone, having participated in leadership camps organized by CSC Nouvelon and events coordinated by the Fédération de la jeunesse franco-ontarienne (FESFO).
Havana Thibodeau-Bello is noted for her leadership skills and commitment to her school community. She currently serves as the Prime Minister of the Student Parliament at ÉS Saint‐Joseph and has previously participated in Ontario’s Legislative Page Program in Toronto. Beyond her academic and leadership roles, Havana is an entrepreneur running her own jewelry business, which allows her to channel her creativity and strengthen her interpersonal skills. She is also passionate about an active lifestyle, engaging in cross-country running, soccer, and dance.
Statements from School Officials
The election process was met with enthusiasm, as highlighted by Suzanne Salituri, Chair of CSC Nouvelon. “We warmly congratulate all students who submitted their candidacy and thank the Student Senate for its engagement in the election process,” she stated. “Our two new student trustees, elected by their peers, will proudly represent the student voice and play an essential role in promoting French-language Catholic education.”
Tom Michaud, Director of Education at CSC Nouvelon, expressed confidence in the newly elected trustees, stating, “Emilie and Havana will excel in their role as student representatives at the Board and in the Student Senate. We are proud to see our students recognize the importance of this role and to witness how this enriching experience allows them to further develop their Catholic and Francophone leadership within their school and community.”
The election of these student trustees reflects a commitment to fostering student leadership and engagement within the CSC Nouvelon community. Both Emilie and Havana are expected to bring their unique perspectives and skills to their roles, contributing positively to the educational experience of their peers.
